Dot NAME Domains

Launched in 2001, the Dot NAME generic top-level domain name extension is the only one supposed to be for personal websites only. These domains can be personal or fictitious names, nicknames and/or other titles people are popular by. At first, just third-level registrations were permitted, so if you wished to acquire john.doe.name, you were required to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was loosened and 2nd-level registrations were also allowed. Already taken third-level domains remained active.
